Taking a break

I am taking a break from blogging. Let's face it, folks. I'm not a writer. I'm not witty and classy like Michael Guy
. I'm not smart like Ur-Spo. I can't even write an entertaining entry of my day-to-day life like Steve without coming across like a bore.
I'm also beginning to find blogging more of a chore than a fun hobby. Not to mention my daily routine (read: work and being a 'housewife') keeps me busy enough. I don't need to add more.

Perhaps I'll be back. Perhaps I'll just let this blog become an abandoned place where I can carve, "Robert was here", and move along, never to look back. Only time will tell.

For now, see you later.

101 50 Things About Me - Part 2

I don't think I will be able to make a list of 101 things about me. I can barely come up with 50! So is this list the last? Or is it to be continued??? Hmmm...

26. I have the greatest fear of spiders. Any other bugs, I’m ok with, but spiders really make me scream like a girl.
27. I like sitting on the couch on a lazy evening watching TV….and filing my nails.
28. My greatest fear in life is being poor and homeless.
29. I am hoping to buy a new car at the end of this year, even though my car still runs great at 151,400 miles.
30. I am anti-war. If this current war was Vietnam, you bet your ass I would be burning my draft card, growing my hair and beard, and getting high.
31. Speaking of getting high, pot is the only illegal drug I have ever tried. I stopped smoking it a year ago.
32. I’m hoping to move to Dallas/Ft. Worth in about 5 years, and buy my first home there.
33. I don’t have many friends. I can count my friends on one hand and still have fingers left over. It’s my choice. In my experience, friends = problems.
34. My favorite store is Macy’s.
35. I prefer to use email as a form of communication than a phone call.
36. For lunch on most days, I have a cigarette and a Diet Coke.
37. My biggest pet peeves ever are 1.) slow drivers and 2.) people that don’t use their turn signals.
38. I don’t think I can come up with 101 things about me….my life is pretty bland.
39. I once made a Marine cry. I’m ever so proud of that!
40. Speaking of #39, when fighting (not physically), as Brian once said, “I don’t mince words.” My words can be harsh and I tend to “hit below the belt.”
41. I have never been in a physical fight.
42. I hope to have one child, a boy, in the future. I already have a name picked out for him: Kevin Luke.
43. I’m only 5’6”.
44. But I weigh a hefty 167 pounds.
45. Though I’ve been told I don’t look “fat.”
46. With the exception of my sister, I am not really close to my family.
47. I would eventually like to see the world, specifically England, Greece, Italy, and France.
48. I would LOVE to spend a night in a haunted house.
49. Speaking of things haunted, I love watching horror movies.
50. I am addicted to lip balm. I carry one everywhere I go and apply it often.

It's hard...

...coming up with 101 things about me. Somebody should have warned me! Pretty lofty goal for such a boring person.

So, I'm going to think of some more things and I'll be back soon.

101 50 Things About Me - Part 1

I have never done this before (I don't think), although I have seen it on other blogs and it's a nice way to get to know someone a bit more.

101 Things About Me
  1. I love kitty cats. I have two and would adopt more if I could.
  2. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis this year.
  3. Even though I'm gay, I am somewhat handy with car engine repair.
  4. At the same time, I can discuss such fabulous topics such as style trends.
  5. I used to have $40,000 in credit card debt.
  6. I worked two jobs for awhile to pay said debt.
  7. I am a Cancer, but I'm starting to believe the zodiac thing is bullshizz as a lot of Cancers are not like me.
  8. Maybe I was meant to be born a Scorpio as I can be moody and vengeful.
  9. Since I was 12, I always wanted to be an Accountant. Guess what I do now? :)
  10. I have had flings with married men.
  11. I smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights.
  12. My favorite alcoholic drink is a Long Island Iced Tea.
  13. My favorite regular drink is Diet Coke.
  14. My mind is always thinking about something or another.
  15. Because of such active mind, I tend to have an active imagination.
  16. Because of such active imagination, I tend to worry about the "what ifs" in life.
  17. Yes, I am a worrier.
  18. I love listening to music from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. None of this new crap for my ears. They don't make music like they used.

To be continued...

Moving?

Within the past 6 months or so, Brian and I (mainly me) have been thinking of moving. After the big housing boom of 2004/2005 in the Phoenix Metro area, we realized that we are priced out of the housing market. A home here now costs an average of $250K, twice as much as it did back when I moved here in 2003. The Phoenix area is also growing so fast that it's becoming a huge megalopolis similar to Chicago and L.A. Too much for me. Too scary for me (with more people it just means more crime).

So Brian and I have been thinking of places to move to. I still want to live in a city because of what a city has to offer, but not too big. We thought about Nashville. Too "country" for me. Besides I probably would be the only brown person there. Denver? Too cold. After spending sometime researching and reading a Money Magazine article of the best/cheapest markets for homes, Dallas/Ft. Worth seems to be the winner. It's big, yes, but not too big and it's definitely spread out. Houses? About $120K for a moderate home, $200K for a lake view home. All with at least a 1/4 acre and a two car garage. Not too mention that DFW has a fabu gay culture.

This is all in the preliminary stages. We probably won't move any time soon, especially since I want to add several more years under my professional career belt that will look kick ass on my resume. Also, Brian just moved here not even a year ago. I would feel bad to uproot him so soon. But we seem to be in agreement that this is what we want. We shall see.

One last video post from YouTube for awhile....promise

Ok, as the title of this post states, this is one final video from YouTube that I wanted to share. A quick background on this song which I found out...this song was written by Melanie Safka after she performed at Woodstock in '69. She was inspired to write this because everybody in attendance were in such a joyful, peaceful mood. After a rainstorm during Woodstock, the attendees began lighting candles, and according to Melanie, it was a very beautiful sight.

Anyway, enjoy. Read along with the lyrics. I'm sorry, but I don't have a bouncing red dot to guide you through the lyrics.

Melanie "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)"
Lay down lay down
Lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up
At the ones who stand and frown
Lay down lay down
Lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up
At the ones who stand and frown

We were so close there was no room
We bled inside each others' wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace

Lay down lay down
Lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up
At the ones who stand and frown
Lay down lay down
Lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up
At the ones who stand and frown

So raise the candles high
'Cause if you don't we could stay
Black against the night
So raise them higher again
And if you do we could stay dry against the rain

[Chorus:]

We were so close there was no room
We bled inside each others' wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace

Some came to sing
Some came to pray
Some came to keep the dark away
So raise the candles high
'Cause if you don't we could stay
Black against the night
So raise them higher again
And if you do we could stay dry against the rain

[Chorus (repeat)]

This song...

...is stuck in my head. Thank God it's a good song, not a crappy one.

2007, Welcome.

So it's 2007. Wow, 2007! Shouldn't we have flying cars by now? Anywho, my New Year's resolutions is short. Year after year I resolute (is that a word?) to do the same cliched crap...lose weight, be a "better person", yadda, yadda, yadda. This year it's as simple as 1.) kick ass at work. Not literally. 2.) Build a savings. Unless stuff comes up like last year that doesn't allow me to save a penny. 3.) Smoke less. Not quit, just less. Baby steps here folks.

That's it. Stuff that I know I can keep through the year.

To welcome in the new year, Brian and I didn't do anything special. We went out for a nice dinner at Charleston's and came home. A very low-key new year celebration. I didn't want to take Brian out anyway as alcohol was aplenty yesterday. No need to tempt his fragile body & soul. We were in bed by 11 pm. We are old. We can't stay up past 9 on most nights, so 11 was something to be proud of.
